History of Milan Fashion Week

    The Milan Fashion Week event began in 1958 as a way for Italian fashion designers to
showcase their collections to international buyers and press. The first Milan Fashion Week
was held at Palazzo Pitti in Florence, but it moved to Milan in 1975 and has been held there
ever since.
    One of the founders of Milan Fashion Week was Italian designer and entrepreneur Giovanni Battista Giorgini, who organized the first Italian fashion shows in 1951 to promote Italian fashion abroad.
